If you look over the type of celebrities I've interviewed on this site you'll find it consists mostly of people in the movie or TV industry.
Sure there's been sports people, and part time models. This interview, however, is with a professional model/spokesperson.
I'm referring, of course, to Katarina Van Derham.
I hope you enjoy this interview. I sure did.
1. How did you become a spokes model?
(I assume you're asking about how I became a St. Pauli Girl spokes model)
For big campaigns you always go up against a few hundreds of models. Especially in Hollywood. In 2008 St. Pauli Girl teamed up with Maxim magazine where after a few rounds of castings they narrowed down to the top four. I was one of them. Then readers of Maxim magazine got to vote and chose their favorite. I am very grateful for all the votes I got because not just that I became the 2009 St. Pauli Girl spokes model but I made a history by being the first spokes model who got her contract re-newed and came back for the following year. As a spokes model you have to be very approachable, sweet, confident and of course pretty.
2. Benchwarmer is known throughout the US. What is it like to be a part of?
I've been a part of the Benchwarmer family for about 7 years now and I love it. Being among over 600 models and being still one of the top 10 models is a big honor. Baseball trading cards have been around for ever and that is why Benchwarmer, which uses the same concept, is very successful.
3. Describe the days leading up to you becoming Miss Hawaiian Tropic. Were you at all nervous?
You always get nervous. Especially when you are that young and you have to show off your curves on the stage and can not show you are nervous. But I didn't have high expectations and I didn't care to win. I was just happy to be in Hawaii and hanging out with my girlfriends.
4. Have you traveled for your modeling job? What is your favorite destination?
I have traveled a lot in the U.S. and also outside with modeling. I have visited more states of the USA than any above average American. Weather I fly private, first class or just coach, I enjoy it the same way because I looooove to travel. I don't have a favorite destination but I love to shoot in Mexico and loved performing in Brazil.
5. Please describe your exercise program for keeping in such great shape.
When I was younger I could get away with going to the gym and just doing a cardio 3 times a week. Now I have to work with a trainer. My trainer Yang helps me with all the weight training 3-4 times a week and I do an hour cardio as often as I can squeeze into my schedule. My body has changed a lot when I hit my 30's and it's very hard to maintain the shape. Also at this point I am not willing to torcher my body by a constant dehydration just to stay lean. I can only do my best.
6. What would be a dream role for you?
I would love to play a singer/rocker in a movie taking a place back in the 80's. I love the energy of the 80's rock.
7. What’s coming up next?
I am hoping to do more acting. I have a new management so we'll see what happens.
8. Is there an event or charity you would like to bring to my reader’s attention?
Not at the moment.
